liz phair: selling out or moving up? no problems with her seeking out success. but it just seems a little, well, desperate. can't imagine that would ever be a term to describe a woman who wrote the lyrics to whiplash. there, the lyrics were confessional, honest and sexy. check out the great supernova. but on 'why can't i,' the lead-off single from her new album, the chorus is just disappointingly banal. and the stanzas have some head-scratchingly bizarre lyrics. and what's with the vocoder effects??
liz, you sure can but is anyone gonna give a damn?
